Whether it's advertising or branding that makes us laugh, think, or something we just find clever... you will find it here. Welcome to Fresh Media's Orange Slice.
One Man's Treasure...
Own a piece of NYC-- and that piece happens to be a piece of garbage. Artist Justin Gignac started selling NYC garbage back in 2001 after his co-workers belittled the importance of packaging design. Eleven years later, over 1,300 NYC Garbage Cubes have been sold and now reside in 30 countries around the world. We always say great packaging raises the expectations of the product. In this case, the product is great packaging, and it works.
Canadian Tire Ice Truck
So did you hear about Canadian Tire building an actual working truck out of 11,000lbs of ice to prove how tough their batteries are? You can't get much more on-brand with a guerilla marketing tactic than this completely out-of-the-box idea. They even carved out a pine tree air freshener! Brilliant!
Look, Mom-- a plane!
Installed in Londons's Piccadilly Circus & Chiswick, these interactive billboards use custom-built surveillance technology to point out the British Airways flight passing immediately overhead. And when we say point out, we mean flight number, route information, and a cute kid tying everything together. This is an amazing use of technology and creativity which guarantees that you notice the billboard, and actually look up!
Historic Selfies?
This brilliant campaign from South Africa's Cape Times takes famous historic photos and re-imagines them as selfies; the term used for taking a picture of yourself with your cell phone. Cape Times used the hook "You can't get any closer to the news" for the campaign, but we love the creative because it made us wonder whether the next generation of historic photos will be from the selfie standpoint? Especially considering everyone now has a camera in their hands.
Guiness Ghouls & Ghosts This campaign was launched a few years ago, but it is still a clever promo for Guiness beer swillers. At local pubs and bars on Halloween night, each time a patron ordered a Guiness a ghostly shadow shaped coaster was given. These fun shapes kept with the spirit of the festivities of Halloween, and reinforced the brand through this clever low cost gift with purchase.
As you can guess, Guiness had a very good Halloween night.
