Let's be friends!

  • Orange Slice

Whether it's advertising or branding that makes us laugh, think, or something we just find clever... you will find it here. Welcome to Fresh Media's Orange Slice.

  • Pac-Man Fever!
In the 80's, there was no bigger video game than Pac-Man. And we're not just talking about sales of the game. Pac-Man was a part of the culture, and its popularity was everywhere. Especially in the grocery store. While kids' cartoon icons and video game characters can still be found in the grocery aisles today, no character seems to have its branding on as many food products as the legendary Pac-Man (and his family) did. In honour of this yellow, round, ghost-eating icon, here are a few Pac-Man food commercials from back-in-the-day! Our favourite might be the Pac-Man 7-Up ad with the panting Pac-Man!

  • Animation Over Talking Heads
You're a bank and you're selling mortgages, financial services, etc. And obviously, you're competing with all other big banks. The standard solution for your advertising might be trying to show "real" people experiencing "real" moments... in either an over-the-top emotional fashion, or trying to be funny. No matter the execution, we-- the consumers-- have seen it before. This is why we feel the KeyBank animated commercials are so brilliant. First, they use what sounds like truly authentic people having unedited conversations as their script. Then you add really original animation that illustrates the key benefits of the spot in unique ways. Really, really unique animation. In the end, you stop. You watch. You listen. And hopefully, you remember or you react. Sometimes looking and sounding different is what you need to be stand out in a crowded marketplace. Animation can do this so much better than talking heads at times. Case in point.

  • T-Shirt War!
What do you get when you mix 2 guys, 222 t-shirts, and 1 Fire Extinguisher? A T-SHIRT WAR!! They had to change their shirts 100 each, over 2 days and take 5 pictures of each shirt to make this fun stop-motion video.

  • Saying So Much Without Words
Like other Orange Slices, you can see how strong ideas can carry the message of an ad and brand without using any words. These funny Gas-X ads by industry giant Saatchi & Saatchi continue to prove that point.
  • Move-It
David Graham, an industrial designer from the UK, has come up with way to transform an ordinary cardboard box into a DIY "portable trolley". With his "Move-it" kit made completely out of cardboard, you can easily move a heavy box by attaching wheels, supports and a handle. Once difficult to transport, large and awkward boxes can now be moved without the help of a truck or car. The Move-it is 100% eco-friendly (it even uses harmless glue!) and can be recycled or reused. It's not available for purchase yet - but we hope it will be soon!
