SHARING IN THE WIN
Congratulations to Brown's Volkswagen on winning the 2008 Greater Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce Award for Marketing.
Since purchasing the dealership, Jamie Brown and his team have consistently strived to position themselves as market leader in new and pre-owned vehicle sales. Fresh Media is Brown's Volkswagen Agency of Record, and we are proud to partner with such a great client.
NATIONAL AWARD NOMINATION
Melody Dover was recently nominated for a 2008 RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur Award. Melody was nominated for the Deloitte Start-Up Award, which recognizes female entrepreneurs that have been in business up to five years, have experienced growth, and are now ready for their second phase of expansion.
Melody was nominated by Carol Stephenson, Dean of the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.
The RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur Awards provide national recognition to Canada's women entrepreneurs, whose successful businesses and achievements contribute to the Canadian economies, as well as to their own communities.
While Melody was not a finalist, it was a tremendous honour to be recognized amongst all the other incredible female entrepreneurs across Canada. Special thanks to Dean Stephenson for her nomination.
THE MESSAGE OF HOPE
Since 1998, members of the Prince Edward Island Breast Cancer Information Partnership have worked to ensure easy, accessible reliable and up-to-date information about early detection, treatment and follow-up care is available to those affected by breast cancer on PEI.
This important information can now be found online at www.peibcip.org. Fresh Media is honored to have built this site for such a worthy cause.
MANY HELPING HANDS
The Prince Edward Island Rape and Sexual Assault Centre (PEIRSAC) has been helping Islanders for over twenty five years, providing services such as the 24 hour support line, therapy and advocacy.
After many years of helping others, they are getting a helping hand from Fresh Media in the form of new branding and a new website. The new website is an online resource which will assist with reaching out to the public to educate, empower, and prevent rape and sexual assault. For more information visit www.peirsac.org.
TALKING BDC
As a former winner of the Business Development Canada\'s Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Melody was recently invited to present at the BDC Atlantic Region Annual General Meeting. With members of BDC from other provinces attending, Melody spoke and answered questions on her experiences with the BDC, and how working with the BDC has affected her company and position in the marketplace.
Thanks to all the BDC organizers for inviting Melody to participate in your AGM.
SUPPORTING FUNNY
Lights. Microphone. Laughter. This summer, the Island Standup Showcase enters its second year at The Guild, in Charlottetown. Patrick Ledwell, Francois Weber, Taylor Carver, Richard Schroeter, and Fraser McCallum are the talented comics that will be dishing out the funny every Saturday, from July 12th to August 23rd.
At Fresh Media, we love funny-- and we are very proud to be the Island Standup Showcase title sponsor for 2008.
WE'RE FIVE!
On July 12th, 2008, Fresh Media celebrated our 5th birthday! To mark this special day, we decided to throw a big ol' birthday party, complete with balloons, great food, tasty drinks, and one large orange birthday cake.
Thanks to all our fantastic clients, friends, and colleagues that have worked with us over the years, and to those that were able to attend our 5th birthday party. We love working with you and hope you enjoyed our birthday festivities.
INTRODUCING YUMS AND FUSSY PANTS
Yums' Food Adventures is a fun, interactive and customized in-class program for Grades 1 through 6 to educate students in healthy eating habits based on Canada's Food Guide.
Fresh Media is extremely proud to have partnered with Barbie Bevan of the P.E.I. School Milk Foundation in creating these one-of-a-kind characters and educational program.
GENTLE BRANDING
For several years, Prince Edward Island's tourism campaign has centered around the brand positioning of "The Gentle Island". As those in the tourism industry know, this positioning has divided many and is a constant subject of debate, both positive and negative.
In a three-part series, CBC Radio's Island Morning recently examined "The Gentle Island" brand positioning. Fresh Media owner, Melody Dover, was invited to be a part of the first chapter of the series, and spoke with CBC reporter Nancy Russell on the positioning form a marketing perspective.
WHAT'S OLD CAN BE NEW AGAIN!
A big congratulations to Rayanne Frizzell and Strothard Rodd of Old Home Week on their recent win of the 2008 Tourism Industry Association of PEI "Walter Wheeler" award. This award to given to a person or company whose communications helped to support PEI tourism through unique, innovative, professional and creative marketing.
Fresh Media is proud to have been the creative source for Old Home Week's winning campaign, and is looking forward to another great year working together on PEI's Family Fun Fair.
REALLY BIG EXPOSURE
For those in the design community, it is well known that HOW Design is the international trade magazine for design, creativity and business. All the designers at Fresh Media have been big fans of the magazine for years... and with the April 2008 edition, we are now even bigger fans!
In late 2007, both Robbie and Melody Dover attended the MYOB Conference in San Diego. The MYOB Conference, presented by HOW Design, is a business retreat tailored exclusively to principals of design and creative-service firms.
After the conference, Fresh Media was contacted for a testimonial. Melody responded honestly about how the MYOB Conference impacted both her and Robbie, and how all the sessions and programs will assist Fresh Media as it continues to grow.
MYOB liked Melody's quote... And when we opened the April 2008 issue of HOW, we realized how much they liked it!
BIG EXPOSURE
Melody Dover was recently one of the local entrepreneurs highlighted for the 2008 Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce membership campaign. The campaign, entitled "Get Connected", focused on the many benefits of becoming a Chamber member. Melody spoke on how being a Chamber member provided Fresh Media with connections, credible contacts and great opportunities to market her business.
Thanks to the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce for including Fresh Media in your campaign. To learn more about the Chamber, visit their website: www.charlottetownchamber.com
A REWARDING COMPETITION
Melody Dover was recently the marketing judge at the 2007 University of New Brunswick CIBC Business Plan Competition which saw 12 groups of university students from schools in Atlantic Canada and Ontario competing for over $25,000 in cash and prizes in undergraduate and graduate categories.
During the competition, Melody had the opportunity to meet one of Canada's most iconic people, while also rewarding one of Canada's next great social-minded entrepreneurs.
Peter Mansbridge, anchor of CBC’s The National, was the guest speaker at the Competition's luncheon, and concluded the two-day event with a key note address during the award ceremony.
While the Competition contained many enthusiastic and impressive business plans, Melody was thrilled to have awarded Canada SOS with one of the top prizes. Canada SOS hires volunteers to provide tutoring sessions for university students before exams, charging customers $20. The firm then uses all of the funds it raises throughout the academic year to fund a sustainable project in a developing country. Canada SOS has raised more than $100,00 since 2004. In August, 2007, Canada SOS traveled to Belize in Central America, and provided over 100 students with back-packs filled with basic necessities they don't have like pens, pencils, and rulers.
For more information about Canada SOS, we invite you to view their web site at www.canadasos.org.
ONCE AGAIN, CLOSING THE YEAR WITH A WIN!
As many Islanders know, The Shops of Confederation Court Mall, K-Rock 105.5, and Habitat for Humanity PEI teamed up once again this year for the "Come Home Sweet Home - Buy a House to Build a Home" campaign. This successful campaign gave Islanders a chance to build a gingerbread house to raise funds to help build real homes for three deserving Island families.
As part of the corporate challenge, Fresh Media is excited to announce that we had the winning bid for the "GINGAGON".... an interesting creation from the creative mind of Chef Gordon Bailey of the Urban Eatery. While everyone at Fresh Media is pleased with our victory, we are not certain how long the GINGAGON will last on our trophy mantle!
Best of luck to the deserving Island families on their new homes.
