  • PEI PORKTOBERFEST
As October ended, our latest food campaign wrapped up as well. PEI Porktoberfest was a month-long campaign created by Fresh Media, and in partnership with The Prince Edward Island Hog Producers, Hometown Pork, the Department of Agriculture and Forestry and PEI Flavours.

The campaign encouraged local chefs to build the ultimate gourmet Island pork sausage on a bun. Fifteen restaurants joined in on the fun, with none of them previously offering pork sausages on their menus.

The love for local resulted in over 2,800 sausages during the month of October! Winning the culinary title of Best PEI Porktoberfest Chef were Geoff and Debbie Crowther of the Kitchen Witch in New London with their recipe Island Magic, the only 100% gluten-free entry.

We also wrapped up the "Home Chef Challenge" as part of the campaign, where we have over 60 entries submitted and over 2,614 votes cast. Holly Fraser won the Home Chef Challenge for her creation, “Three Pigs Go To Cuba,” featuring sweet Italian pork sausages, Island bacon and roasted pork, dill pickles, gruyere cheese, and mustard on a grilled panini bun.

While weÂ’'re proud to say that PEI Porktoberfest helped to put a spotlight on the IslandÂ’'s hard-working hog farmers, as well as the local markets that sell our pork... we must admit that neither were the highlight of the campaign. That honour goes to having Rick Mercer, host of CBCÂ’s Rick Mercer Report, end one of his shows by telling viewers that when on PEI, to enjoy PEI Porktoberfest. And then follow it up with the line--

"PEI Porktoberfest. Where lobsters breathe a sigh of relief".

Having Rick mention our campaign as part of this show... priceless!

  • HOLLAND COLLEGE PANEL
The Recruitment Department at Holland College recently asked Melody to be a panelist for their careers presentation to Adult Education students at the College.  The panel was put together to give students a better understanding of specific College programs, by having successful graduates speak on how the programs helped them in their careers.

For her part, Melody spoke on the importance Holland College had on her career, as she is a graduate of both the Graphic Design and Interactive Multimedia programs.
